Chemistry and control of aflatoxin.
نویسنده
چکیده
Discovery of the aflatoxins focused attention on an old problem and gave tremendous impetus to research on mycotoxins. This resulted in unparalleled collaboration of specialists in diverse scientific disciplines and brought to hear the most sophisticated tools and techniques. The chemical structures of eight afiatoxins have been established. Several have been synthesized chemically and their biosynthesis elucidated. Hundreds of papers have appeared describing the biochemical alterations associated with administration of aflatoxins to biological test systems, including a variety of laboratory and farm animals. Accurate methods for estimation of aflatoxins and rapid screening methods for their detection in different commodities are being developed. Much information has been obtained concerning the incidence of aflatoxins and practical methods of preventing, or at least minimizing, mould growth and production of aflatoxins in various agricultural commodities. Methods of physical removal of aflatoxin contaminated seeds or kernels, of removal of afiatoxins by extraction, e.g. with polar solvents, and of destruction as with chemical reagents will also be discussed.

Occurrence of Aflatoxin M1 in Pasteurized and Traditional Cheese Marketed in Southern Khorasan, Iran
Background: Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is a toxic and carcinogenic mycotoxin which after presence in milk and dairy products such as cheese and butter could make them as contaminated food. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the concentration of AFM1 in pasteurized and traditional cheese marketed in Southern Khorasan, from December 2011 to January 2012. Methods: A total of 102 cheese sam...
متن کاملDevelopment of electrochemical aptasensor based on gold nanorod and its application for detection of aflatoxin B1 in rice and blood serum sample
Aflatoxins are a group of fungal mycotoxins produced mainly by molds, e.g. Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. Among Aflatoxins, Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is the most toxic. Therefore, there is a prompt need for determination of AFB1 in food products. This paper reports an electrochemical aptasensor for accurate determination of AFB1, which was constructed by the using gold nanorod sensin...
متن کاملMolecular characterization of atoxigenic strains for biological control of aflatoxins in Nigeria.
Aflatoxins are highly toxic carcinogens produced by several species in Aspergillus section Flavi. Strains of A. flavus that do not produce aflatoxins, called atoxigenic strains, have been used commercially in North America as tools for limiting aflatoxin contamination. A similar aflatoxin management strategy is being pursued in Nigeria. In the current study, loci across the 68 kb aflatoxin bios...
متن کاملGeneric Plan of Food Safety Management System Based on ISO 22000:2005 for Aflatoxin Control in Raw Pistachio Processing Units from Raw Material Reception to Packaging
Pistachio is one of the most important agricultural crops of Iran. It is a nut from Anacardiacea family and its domesticated species is called Pistacia vera L. Regarding to pistachio importance and usage and by the expanding of pistachio cultivate, it is necessary to improve agricultural situation and by establishing well equipped processing and packaging units near the farms, it is possible to...
متن کاملStudies on the mechanism of aflatoxin B1 inhibition of rat liver nucleolar RNA synthesis.
In an earlier report, it was shown that aflatoxin B1 treatment strongly inhibits rat liver nucleolar RNA synthesis (Yu, F. L. (1977) J. Biol. Chem. 252, 3245-3251). The present paper is an attempt to elucidate the mechanism of this inhibition. Two h after aflatoxin B1 injection (0.3 mg/100 g body weight), rat liver nucleolar RNA synthesis, in vitro, was inhibited by an average of 90%. This inhi...

Aflatoxins are fungal metabolites by strains of Aspergillus (A.parasiticus and A.flavus) are produced. The clinical signs of aflatoxin poisoning include surgery autopsy, histological lesions and also create effects on the production of poultry flocks in experimental and natural occurrence have been reported in broiler chickens worldwide. The main signs of aflatoxin po...
